What is the Lake Sherwood Community Association?

The Lake Sherwood Community Association (LSCA) is a voluntary, community advocacy organization (not a homeowners association with restrictions and covenants) that works for residents' interests and needs.  Members come together from different neighborhoods in the Lake Sherwood area - including the original 1920's subdivisions as well as the newer Lake Sherwood neighborhoods -- to protect the unique nature and quality of life in our area.

The LSCA was founded more than 50 years ago to preserve our unique environment and advocate for the rights and needs of the citizens of our community. Time and again, we have learned that, only by banding together under the “community umbrella” of Community Association, can the needs, rights and privileges of all residents be sustained. We have been remarkably successful as a voluntary, advocacy organization that works on behalf of the interests of all residents in our community.

Because of our historic and current ties and relationships with our County Supervisor and the array of government agencies of Ventura County, we can insure that the quality of our environment, life style, security and recreational use of the Lake will be defended.  In the coming years, as the Sherwood Development Co. departs and the maintenance of the Lake and its surrounding area devolves to the Sherwood Valley Homeowners Association, we will have further challenges to meet in maintaining our rights to enjoy our unique environment.

The famous American poet, Robert Frost, wrote a telling line that is relevant to all of us who are residents of Lake Sherwood: “The land was ours before we were the land’s.”  His meaning was clear---we all need to contribute to our communities, making life better for ourselves and our neighbors if we want to feel “planted” as responsible residents sharing in our collective well-being.

What is the purpose of the LSCA?

  • To protect, defend and promote the rights and privileges of residents and owners of properties in the Lake Sherwood area, including maintaining our rights to docks, reserve strip, safe swimming, boating and fishing.
  • To maintain the quality and unique beauty of our environment and viewscapes.
  • To foster cooperation among residents and owners of properties at Lake Sherwood, and to preserve and enhance their special recreational advantages.
  • To encourage and cultivate social activities and neighborly relations among residents and owners of properties at Lake Sherwood. Members assist each other in a “neighborly watch” for insuring security and safety.
  • To advocate for the maintenance and quality of our lake, roads, park and other common areas plus mediating and solving problems that arise through strong relationships with our County Supervisor, the Sherwood Development Company and the Sherwood Valley Homeowners Association.

Who is eligible for membership in LSCA?

Membership is open to all residents of Lake Sherwood, including those who rent their homes and residents who reside in the new Sherwood Valley neighborhoods, but voting for officers and Board of Directors is limited to those who live in the “old” original subdivision that goes back 80 years. Allmembers enjoy the advocacy benefits of the Association aimed at preserving our unique life style. Membership dues are $50.00 per year. This nominal fee contributes toward producing the LSCA newsletter, distributing community information, supporting this website, and offsetting portions of the cost of community events.
